Dry FallS & Coulee DaM

When I was young my parents took us to Hoover Dam near Las Vegas, NV & we toured the inside of that dam. It was HUGE! Coulee Dam is even bigger then HOover dam. HUGE! We were able to tour where the generators are & they are MassivE, built right into the ground & then the building is built around the generators. Fascinating. Lake Roosevelt extends clear up to the Canadian Border - it is huge! The Dam is mainly used for irrigation & power is secondary. The original Dam was built in the 30's & over 65 lives were lost. The workers were thankful to just have a job - Great Depression, they didn't think to much about safety. We were also able to drive across the dam. The tours stopped going across the dam after 911. They also stated that the dam receives bomb threats all of the time. So, we were able to tour an amazing facility & learn more about our local history. The boys LOVED this tour. I couldn't believe how BIG everything was. Fun DAY!

The water from the dam rushes down into the generators through these huge cement pipes. The power is controlled through computers - it is fascinating how our power is regulated during hot & cool seasons.

A glacier formed this whole area - in one day. During the glacier time there was a HUGE waterfall - which is now dry. It is so beautiful.

The water falls would have extended behind the group all along this whole area. It was bigger then Niagara Falls. jacy has visited Niagara Falls & was fascinated with the landscape.

OK - just a little history. I was more awake during this trip, probably because I had to drive the kids. HA!

So dry, but lakes everywhere. Another fun day trip. The exchange group had such a tight schedule. On this day we were running late - Yuhei was blow drying his hair! HA!!
